Calm After The Storm!

Jul. 11, 2021

Players from Edmonton and Central and Northern Alberta found a place to put their pent up energy this past weekend as HockeyFest rolled into Alberta's capital city. More than 400 players on 50 teams hit the rinks set up in a West Edmonton Mall parking lot to compete for a little money and a lot of bragging rights. There were young, old, male and female teams having fun, some having travelled for as long as four hours to make the journey into Edmonton to play on the "real rinks with real refs." The Beaut Dawgs ended up champs in the Men's Competitive division, taking home $500 in the process. Hockey Edmonton teamed up with HockeyFest to stage the event and everyone was thrilled with the turnout and how smoothly the event ran, especially considering Alberta had just eased the last of the health restrictions put in place due to the pandemic. There was also a slight delay in game times due to some high winds and nearby lightning Saturday afternoon. The players all felt it was an incredible tournament and vow to come back for more. All of the organizers expect the numbers to grow dramatically when HockeyFest returns to town next year!
